Biographical Info
Gregory Canillas, Ph.D. currently serves as President & CEO of Soul2Soul Global, a mission-driven company that provides couple and parenting retreats. He is an Associate Professor in the Clinical-Forensic Psychology doctoral program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (Los Angeles). Dr. Canillas' clinical work and research have focused on couples/dating, children/adolescents, families, ethnic minority mental health, and LGBTQ clients. Dr. Canillas served on the American Psychological Association's Task Force on Psychological Practice with Sexual Minority Persons, writing the Guidelines focused on relationships and families. He also currently serves as adjunct faculty in the graduate psychology programs of Pepperdine and CSU Northridge. He previously served as Program Director at a mental health agency, where he oversaw the child and adult therapy programs, the CalWORKs mental health and the CalWORKs Homeless Families Project. Dr. Canillas also served a Clinical Psychologist with two child/family mental health programs directly operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. Dr. Canillas has worked in a variety of capacities with adults, as well as with children, adolescents, and families involved in the foster care system, including as a Children’s Social Worker with the Department of Children and Family Services, and later as the Clinical Director of a family preservation program. He has also served as a program director of a pregnant/parenting adolescent program. Dr. Canillas has previously served on the faculties of National University, Loyola Marymount University, Antioch University-Los Angeles, Los Angeles Southwest College and the University of California, Santa Cruz. Dr. Canillas also serves as the CEO of Canillas-King, a hospitality company that focuses on creating custom cocktail menus for private events. He also lectures on mental health and wellness for hospitality professionals. Dr. Canillas currently serves on the UCSC Alumni Council. He has previously served as the Co-Chair of the Commission for Youth and Families in Long Beach, California, where he was charged with developing services for families and advising the mayor and city council on services for these populations. He is a member of the American Psychological Assn, Assn of Black Psychologists and Asian American Psychological Assn.
